Description
The Huautla mushroom originates in Mexico, near the community of Huautla de Jiminez in the Oaxaca
Region.
The fruiting bodies have caps that are conical to bell-shape in maturity and can reach a diameter of
2.5cm. Huautla grow on thin bare stems, in groups or clusters on rotting wood, and can vary in color
based on its level of hydration.
While used in Mexico for entheogenic purposes for hundreds of years,
the rest of the world was introduced to Huautla in 1955 after American banker and amateur
ethnomycologist, Gordon Wasson, visited the village of curer and shaman, Maria Sabina.
