Tidal Wave cubensis mushroom spores have grown exponentially in popularity since their 2017 creation by mycologist Doma of MagicMyco. This wonderfully strange hybrid of Penis Envy and B+ has garnered much attention for its unique “wavy” edges on the cap. While working with the original Tidal Wave the MagicMyco team began to isolate mutations from the original hybrid. These isolated mutations have given the mycology community new related strains to study, such as Tidal Wave 2, Tidal Wave 4, and the leucistic isolation Tidal Wave 5. Tidal Wave 4 was found to present the physical characteristics of B+ caps and the thick white stems of Penis Envy. 

Another fascinating mutation of Tidal Wave recently garnering the attention of researchers is the brain coral shaped strain, Enigma. Enigma looks nothing like its big brother, the original Tidal Wave, and does not drop spores. Currently the only method to propagate this mutation is through cloning the fruit of a mature Enigma mushroom. A sample is applied to an agar plate (a nutrient-rich medium for growing out mycelium) and moved to a liquid nutrient solution to create liquid culture. In this second stage of life the mycelium begins to produce psilocybin, a Schedule 1 controlled substance with CSA and is federally illegal in the United States.

Doma, from MagicMyco, is responsible for this fantastic cultivar. It was created by breeding the legendary Penis Envy and B+.
Tidal Wave magic mushrooms possess most it’s physical attributes from the B+ strain, but also include the densely packed gills and thick white bodies of Penis Envy. At times, they can present with a small white “ball” at the top of the cap. Tidal Wave do not occur naturally in the wild.
Tidal Wave produces beautiful spore prints, presenting a dark brown to purplish hue, with sub-ellipsoid shaped spores. The fruit the spores produce have the very distinct “wave” towards the edges of the caramel to golden brown cap.
Tidal Wave magic mushroom spores are more finnicky to research due to the presence of Penis Envy in its genetics. Tidal Wave spores are suitable for intermediate to advanced researchers, and in comparison, easier to work with than most Penis Envy strains.
