The Huautla magic mushroom comes from the Oaxaca state of Mexico, near the village of Huautla de Jiminez. In 1955, American banker, author, and amateur ethnomycologist, Gordon Wasson, visited a village in Oaxaca Mexico and was introduced to this psilocybin producing mushroom through legendary village shaman, Maria Sabina. Huautla is also known for having a stronger resistance to environmental contamination.
