Turkey Tail, or Trametes Versicolor, is a beautiful, multi-colored medicinal mushroom named for its concentric brown and tan rings, resembling the tail feathers of a turkey. Trametes Versicolor is one of the most well-researched, widely used medicinal mushrooms and can be found growing on dead logs around the world. Turkey tail stimulates cytokine production which may boost immune function by increasing NK cells in the body. NK or “natural killer” cells kill tumor cells as well as cells infected by viruses. Not known for its flavor, but more so for its medicinal properties, Turkey Tail also contains immune boosting polysaccharides, phenols, and flavonoids, which aid in inflammation, combating HPV, antibacterial properties, type 2 diabetes, and gut health support. It has also been suggested that it can improve athletic performance. This is typically taken in powder form as a nutritional and health supplement.*
